Mission

 

 

Valley Blacktop, part of the Terus Construction Ltd. group, is looking to hire a Traffic Control Person for its Revelstoke,BC  operation.

As a Traffic Control Person your primary responsibility is to ensure the safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in and around construction zones. You will play a crucial role in maintaining traffic flow, minimizing disruptions, and ensuring the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians. You will communicate and coordinate with construction crews and drivers, while adhering to local traffic regulations and safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and guide vehicular and pedestrian traffic safely through construction zones using hand signals, signs, and other approved methods.
  • Control traffic flow by regulating the movement of vehicles, including guiding drivers on proper detours and lane changes.
  • Ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place by wearing reflective clothing, using necessary safety equipment, and maintaining a visible presence at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers and construction crews using hand signals, two-way radios, or other communication devices to relay important traffic information and potential hazards.
  • Maintain accurate records of traffic flow, incidents, violations, and safety concerns, reporting them to the appropriate authorities as necessary.
  • Inspect and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, signs, barricades, and temporary traffic lights to ensure their proper functioning and visibility.
  • Stay updated on local traffic regulations, guidelines, and safety standards to ensure compliance and promote a safe working environment.
  • Assist in the coordination of traffic control plans and collaborate with construction crews and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and minimal disruptions.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Valid Traffic Control certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge of local traffic laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and give clear directions using hand signals, signs, and verbal instructions.
  • Physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and perform manual tasks such as lifting traffic control devices.
  • Strong attention to detail and situational awareness to identify potential hazards and respond quickly and appropriately.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with construction crews, drivers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
