Purpose of Role

 

Ensure the stores are efficiently run in order to provide a good reliable service to the depot and rail vehicle fleet in order to satisfy the requirements with respect to materials Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery. The role supports the “Supply Team Leader ' in the stock control, warehousing & logistics of the fleet of rail grinding machines which Colas Rail Services maintain and operate on behalf of Network Rail.

Stock availability-Ensure stock is available & accurate on the system to meet Rail grinding maintenance

Person Specification

 

  • Forklift and Pallet Truck experience is essential​​​​​​
  • Excellent written, verbal, and IT communication skills
  • Required to be proficient in  ‘FAMS’ Network Rail Fleet Asset Management System
  • Required to be proficient in Summit / Coperneck
  • Must be competent in the use of material management systems, Microsoft office excel & word.
  • Ability to work safely and under own initiative without supervision.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work equally as well as an individual or as part of a team
  • Flexible, honest and reliable with a positive outlook on the requirement to adapt to change to accommodate the business' needs.
  • Possess a structured methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Willingness to continue personal development through training.
  • Ability to prioritise work and achieve deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, analytical and inquisitive.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Ordering of stock from suppliers, must be able to manage lead times to ensure no stock outs
  • Booking in & out of material of both stock and calibration tooling. Pick and process material requisitions accurately and arrange collections in a timely manner.
  • Manage repairable materials, organise and manage the collection of repairable and warranties items in a time timely manner. Correctly labelling and advising on rejections / shortages and warranties. This will need to be  managed with the rail grinding engineers throughout to conclusion. The repairable float is managed throughout the supply chain & business system
  • Analyse warehouse stock holding & seek cost improvements through supplier lead time standardisation and reduction
  • Loading / unloading of goods from road vehicles
  • Deliveries are inspected upon receipt and processed correctly
  • Manage stock rotation on FIFO basis
  • Assist in maintenance of accurate stores document control to satisfy audit criteria and adherence of corporate procedures, which includes stores operating procedures
  • Undertake Stock checks as directed and assist in any required reconciliation and storage housekeeping
  • Maximise availability of material whilst minimising stock levels & aligned with stock holding levels and usage
  • Pick and process material requisitions and plan transport and distribution requirements for rail grinding machine shipments in a timely manner
  • Reduce waste involved in ‘picking’ times by optimising procedures and stores layout and manpower utilisation across shifts
  • Materials are stored correctly, and BIN numbers are maintained on the business system
  • Reorder supplier details are updated on the business system
  • Stores housekeeping is maintained to the highest standard
  • Assist in of the supplier accreditation process for the procurement group, ensuring that the client's standards are met and adhered to.
  • Compliance with ISO 9001 and 14001 Quality and Environmental procedures.
  • To work safely with due regard to their own and other people’s well-being.
  • At all times wear personal protective equipment appropriate to the tasks being carried out.
  • Comply with all local and company rules or instructions on safety matters.
  • Participate in a positive manner in all company safety initiatives.
  • Attend safety briefing sessions as required by the company.
  • Present themselves for duty promptly and fit to carry out their duties as required by the company policy and procedures.
  • When driving company vehicles, do so within the bounds of the Highway Code and any appropriate company instructions or procedures.
  • Maintain stores visualisation board
  • Close liaison with engineering and assurance to ensure current and planned future material needs are developed and procured effectively and efficiently, which includes material obsolescence.
  • Deputise in the absence of the Stores Supervisor
  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
  • Nature of work, - Warehouse based, this is a ‘hands on’ role as required and will involve weekend working
