Job Summary

The Paving Coordinator handles daily administrative tasks relating to paving processes (haul costing, sweeping, quality control, coordination of nightshift milling and paving logistics, etc). They are also responsible to support the Paving Manager in the project coordinator role for paving projects, including maintaining accurate records of revenue quantities on paving projects.

Process Specific Tasks

  • Responsible for daily review of paving haul costs including daily generation of Virtual Shift tickets in Fleetwatcher
  • Coordinating with paving supervisors, trucking division, accounting and Fleetwatcher to resolve software complaints and coding discrepancies as they arise
  • Responsible for coordinating stringline of GBC prior to paving, asphalt at CCC and asphalt at FAC (and notifying the project teams when required)
  • Responsible for saving and archiving stringline results in the project files
  • Tasked with daily monitoring of paving haul and sweeping processes to ensure accurate invoices are processed for payment to vendors.
  • Responsible for coordinating and tracking sweeping costs through Fleetwatcher.

Project Specific Tasks (for projects managed by the Paving Manager)

  • Responsible for project file set up, activity cost coding, preparation and distribution of job packages to facilitate field operations, maintain safety and other project documentation in project file
  • Monitor sub-contractors for compliance, including review and enforcement of Sub-Contractor Checklist (current utility locates, proper PPE etc.) and report any violations to the Paving Manager
  • Responsible for supporting and leading all aspects of the company safety program and regulations, including completion of formal safety inspections and reports as required.
  • Ensure sub-contractor is performing their scope of work to design standards and specifications
  • Acts as a company representative at all site meetings and as a point of contact for field level questions regarding a project
  • Responsible for collection and confirmation of field quantities for month end progress submissions
  • Maintain an accurate project budget including Change Orders
  • Maintain up to date short-term work schedules of the active projects they are involved in
  • Leading and advocating for compliance with company policies, procedures and guidelines, including ethics and safety

Knowledge/Skills

  • Capable of reading and understanding construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment, materials and processes especially pertaining to paving
  • Proficient with Fleetwatcher, MS Office and estimating software
  • Positive and cooperative attitude

Experience/Education

  • High School Diploma plus Civil/Construction Engineering Technologist C.E.T. or relevant post-secondary education is considered.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Class 5 driver’s license required.

Working Conditions

  • Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, overtime as required.
  • Night and nontypical shift work depending on seasonal requirements.
  • Prolonged sitting and computer work.
  • Outdoors, inclement weather during site visits.
  • Working in & around live traffic.
  • Exposures: noise, dust, fumes, and other Workplace Hazardous Materials
  • Comply with Company drug and alcohol policy.
