Job Summary

HRI, Inc., a leader in heavy civil construction since 1947, has an opening for an experienced and upbeat Paving Foreman for Central Pennsylvania.

The Paving Foreman position is within our Highway Region, where we specialize in asphalt paving, and similar products. The selected individual will ensure that the crew always operates within HRI’s safety standards. They will plan and assign work, track and account for labor hours and efficiently coordinate activities of a construction a crew. Travel will be a requirement for this position.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise paving crews, including equipment operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
  • Assign tasks, provide direction, and ensure that work is completed according to project specifications and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Conduct inspections of work areas to ensure proper preparation, grading, and compaction of surfaces prior to paving.
  • Operate paving equipment, such as asphalt pavers, rollers, and skid steers, as needed.
  • Complete daily reports, timesheets, and other documentation required by company procedures or project specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment hours.

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience preferred additional technical training or certifications in paving operations preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history

Skills

  • Proven experience as a paving foreman or similar leadership role in the construction industry.
  • Detailed knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Strong leadership and social skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members, clients, and other customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering quality results on time and within budget.

Physical Requirements

The paving foreman must have a strong dedication to safety practices to protect oneself and others on the job site. This includes adhering to safety protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and identifying potential hazards.

They primarily work outdoors on construction sites, which may involve exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, and inclement weather conditions. The job may require frequent bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Irregular hours and occasional travel to different job sites may be necessary.

Other Physical Requirements Include:

  • The ability to lift heavy objects, such as paving materials, tools, and equipment; this may involve lifting weights up to 50 pounds or more
  • Stamina to work long hours in various weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold. They may need to stand for extended periods to meet project timelines
  • Effective communication skills (both listening and verbal), listening to equipment signals, and being aware of potential hazards in the work environment.
