Compensation

$62,700-$78,400

Job Summary

The Project Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the management of project(s) by means of cost management and analysis, scheduling, billings, and project management. They will also be encouraged to perform field and office engineering, administrative, and technical duties.

Main Responsibilities

  • Analyze project(s) costs through time sheets, weekly quantities and job cost reports
  • Assist Superintendent(s) and project manager with project operations, schedules, and cost management
  • Assist in producing monthly billing estimates for agency and subcontractors
  • Assist with the development of project(s) long term and short-term schedule
  • Assist the Project manager with extra work billings and claims issues
  • Assist the Project Manager with final pay quantities, claims, and project closeout procedures
  • Attend pre-job and weekly meetings with agencies/owners
  • Connect with agency(s), superintendent(s), subcontractor(s), foremen, estimator(s)
  • Compile all submittals and RFIs, review against the contract documents and submit to the owner
  • Coordinate subcontractor/vendors in accordance with project schedule
  • Ensure a safe project site and work environment in accordance with the Sully-Miller policy while actively participating with Goal Zero principles
  • Establish and maintain both cost report and billing quantities
  • Handle positions that may report to the project engineer such as the project clerk and/or project engineer intern
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Receive all returned documents and distribute appropriately
  • Verify and approve vendor payables, supervise vendor quantities through timesheets and physical accounting

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering/Construction management or Equivalent Experience or combination
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in road construction or a related field
  • Valid CA driver’s license with an excellent driving record

  • Previous knowledge of Caltrans and Greenbook Specifications
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, JD Edwards, Suretrack, P3-P6, and Heavy Job
  • Strong Engineering background
  • Strong tendency to take initiative

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use hands and fingers in order to type and carry reports should the need require
  • Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday should the need arise
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch should the need arise
  • Ability to sit for a long period of time, possibly more than 90% of the workday
  • Ability to see clearly or with assistance via vital correction
  • Ability to speak on telephone/radio
  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle
