Purpose of the role

 

Colas Ltd. have a great opportunity for a SHE Manager to join the Area 9 team based in Bescot, Walsall WS1 4NL.  As a SHE Manager you will provide an information and advisory service to the Management and employees of Colas Limited on Health and Safety and Environmental issues in accordance with the dictates of Legislation, Group and Company Policy.

Main Responsibilities

 

As a SHE Manager you will support the General Manager and the contract-based management in the co-ordination of all activities related to the implementation, development and maintenance of the HSEQ management systems. This will involve project specific forward planning and site visits including the completion of inspections, audits and activities associated with project site start requirements. The role will require extensive travel across the west Midlands where both daytime and night-time operations take place. Your duties will include but not be limited to the following: To investigate accidents/incidents and ensure lessons learnt are applied, to perform audits on safety and environmental risk areas, to contribute to the review and revision of HSEQ policies, plans, documented procedures and forms, to ensure Inspection and Testing requirements are maintained throughout our activities and undertake safety audits and toolbox talks as required by the contract. You will provide strong awareness of CDM requirements utilising knowledge and experience of highways maintenance. Most importantly, to ensure that all operations carried out within our area of responsibility are undertaken with full regard for the safety of visitors, other members of staff and yourself and to ensure all activities are undertaken with due regard for the environment, to prevent pollution, comply with legal and corporate requirements and minimise environmental impact. 

Ideal Candidate

 

The ideal candidate will be qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent as a minimum. It is essential you have the following qualifications before applying for this role: Technical or Chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and have obtained a NEBOSH diploma standard or higher. You will have relevant HSEQ experience in civil engineering and build environments and hold a high level of experience in highway construction and maintenance. You will have relevant knowledge and understanding of Environmental, Health and Safety Law and its application to the work environment. 

 

As a Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Manager you will be able to provide leadership and management utilising practical experience developed from within this business and or the industry sector. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and forward-thinking individual with strong commercial acumen who has previous experience of managing high performing teams. A valid UK driving licence is essential for this role.
