Job Summary

The Sr. Staff Accountant will play a crucial role in the financial operations of Barrett Paving Materials Inc. This position involves preparing complex journal entries, generating detailed financial reports, analyzing financial data for decision-making, and utilizing various bookkeeping systems. The Sr. Staff Accountant will report directly to the Regional Controller and will contribute to maintaining the financial integrity of the organization. Main Responsibilities
- Financial Analysis: Provide comprehensive support for the Regional Controller in all financial matters, including forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis to identify areas for financial improvement.
- Reporting: Prepare and present accurate financial reports, such as balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and variance reports, ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.
- Recordkeeping: Maintain meticulous records by conducting regular audits and reconciliations of accounts, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial information.
- Journal Entries: Execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, including the preparation of complex journal entries and adjustments as necessary.
- Data Management: Perform data entry and manage financial information systems, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
- Confidentiality: Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost professionalism and integrity, adhering to company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborative Work: Work closely with other departments to support financial operations, responding to inquiries and providing insights that drive business decisions.
Skills and Education
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master’s degree or CPA certification is a plus.
- Proven academic success in Accounting, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar accounting role, preferably within the construction or heavy civil sectors.
- Strong mathematical skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey financial information effectively to various stakeholders.
- High level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility in managing financial tasks and deadlines.
- A proactive and motivated individual with a strong desire to take on new challenges and learn continuously.
- Ability to work collaboratively in team settings, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
