Job Summary

Terus Construction a part of Colas Western Canada Inc. is looking for a Journeyman Electrician to join our team, providing professional and technical support to the company’s asphalt and crushing equipment. In addition to maintaining and upgrading electrical and electrical components, this position is responsible for reducing or eliminating equipment downtime.  There is flexibility in home base as we operate in various locations throughout the West Kootenay (Nelson/Castlegar/Revelstoke) and East Kootenay (Cranbrook/Invermere/Golden) regions of British Columbia.

Job Responsibilities

  • Navigate and troubleshoot electrical breakdowns on asphalt plants, crushers, and equipment.
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical control circuits for motors and control devices for various electrical devices while ensuring compliance with code.
  • Diagnose, locate the cause of, and repair malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, electrical code specifications and schematics in order to effectively troubleshoot, maintain, repair and upgrade equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment, components, shops and facilities.
  • When necessary, remotely assess electrical breakdowns with the plant foreman or plant operator.
  • Travel to remote sites to perform necessary electrical maintenance and/or troubleshoot breakdowns.
  • Assess the functionality of electrical components and make necessary changes and upgrades to prevent obsolescence and equipment downtime.
  • Order and pick up electrical parts from suppliers, while ensuring the parts are of the right quality and price.
  • Work in collaboration with Area Managers and their staff on major repairs and/or capital projects.
  • Assist staff with mechanical repairs when required.
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company's Code of Ethics.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Provincial Journeyperson or Red Seal Journeyperson required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Journeyperson industrial electrician required.
  • Experience with repair and maintenance of asphalt and crushing equipment an asset.
  • Solid understanding of control systems, motor control, VFD's, electronics, computers, electrical codes and equipment manuals.
  • Mechanical ability is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent travel required throughout southern BC and potentially the whole province.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Use of personal protection equipment is required.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol policy, including testing requirements.
  • Must comply with all company policies.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
