Purpose of the role

 

Colas Ltd. have an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Officer to join the wonderful Payroll team based at our head office in Bishops Court, B37 7YB. You will be working in a team of 5 and be responsible for the processing of end to end weekly and monthly payrolls across the Colas Ltd Group, including its Subsidiaries, Allied Infrastructure and Continental Bitumen for approximately 1400 people. This position will ensure the preparation and input of data into the Payroll System, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of data, validating input and calculations, managing queries from absence, average holiday pay to pension and benefits, liaising with the HR Team and wider business stakeholders as necessary to provide excellent customer service as required.

Main Responsibilities

 

As a Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for the accurate processing of weekly and monthly payrolls within the designated processing windows, ensuring our colleagues are enrolled onto payroll, paid right first time, and queries proactively investigated, root causes identified and actioned appropriately. You will support the Team in the Management of Week End / Month End / Year End Processes such as reconciliations, internal and external audits, payslip, P45, P11d and P60 release. You will be required to calculate and process Average Holiday Pay in line with legislation, ensuring criteria are met before loading to the relevant pay periods. Compliance in statutory payments such as PAYE, Pensions and other benefits such as salary sacrifice schemes, ensuring Colas remain compliant with current payroll legislation is crucial within this role. As part of this role, you will advise on complex absence cases and process statutory / company absences in relation to SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP, ShPP, KIT Days and Jury Service as per statutory guidance and internal company policy. You will be involved with the administration of the Group Pension Schemes, including open and closed schemes, deducted either by Salary Sacrifice (depending on earnings), including compliance with reenrolment processes when these occur. You will ensure compliance with Employee Deductions, including but not limited to Union Deductions, Court Orders, CMS, DEA, Vehicle Fines. You will be required to work closely with the HR Service Team, the wider HR Operational Teams and the business to educate and advise in respect of payroll guidance and concerns.

Ideal Candidate

 

The ideal candidate will have a Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) or equivalent is desirable, not essential. It is essential you have some experience with integrated Payroll and Workforce Management Systems (PeopleXD Desirable) and managing Salary Sacrifice Schemes, National Minimum Wage Compliance, Benefits Providers, End of Year Payroll Processing.

 

We are looking for a someone who is passionate about employee engagement, have excellent communication, written and oral which is absolutely key within this role. You will have the ability to change to fit the audience, have a good eye for detail and be able to prioritise workload.
